Yodha: Aerial Thriller Review – Does Sidharth Malhotra’s Starring Vehicle Take Flight or Crash Land

Yodha, starring Sidharth Malhotra, Raashi Khanna, and Disha Patani among others, is now showing in theaters. The film was directed by Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha.

    Key Highlights

    Plot of the Movie

Motivated by his father Surender Katyal (Ronit Roy), Arun Katyal (Sidharth Malhotra) is employed by the Indian government in a special task group called Yodha that specializes in deadly rescue operations. The Prime Minister’s secretary Priyamvada Katyal (Raashii Khanna), his wife, is fed up with her husband’s constant manipulation of his life.

One day, after failing to save a nuclear scientist from a deadly plane hijack, the Yodha force is scrutinized. Priyamvada is upset because, contrary to what the Yodhas believe, the scientist might have been rescued if they had been open to discussion. A formal investigation has resulted in Team Yodha’s suspension following the incident. Priyamvada has had enough of Arun. She asks him to sign the divorce papers. Arun agrees to sign the paperwork. He does so as long as the nation is taken care of.

Arun never gives up. He keeps contacting government agencies through letters. Due to his years of experience, Arun finally becomes an air commando major. Meanwhile, the other members of the Yodha taskforce accept what is offered to them. Arun boards a plane. A sequence of events culminates in its hijacking. The media is tricked into thinking that Arun, the former Yodha, is behind the entire takeover. Will Arun be able to clear his name and prevent additional embarrassment to the nation? See Yodha in theaters right now to learn more.

What works in Favour of the Movie

Yodha excels in delivering high-octane action throughout the film. The hand-to-hand combat scenes are executed with precision and skill. Sidharth Malhotra exhibits grace and finesse in his action sequences. The choreography of the scenes inside the airplane is impeccably done. These scenes occur particularly during moments of chaos. They promise viewers an immersive experience. Additionally, they offer a thrilling ride throughout the film.

While the film faces numerous issues with its story and screenplay, it undeniably maintains a rapid pace that keeps viewers engaged and frequently surprises them. The songs, including “Zindagi Tere Naam” and “Tiranga,” besides the popular “Qismat,” are delightful to listen to and instantly connect with audiences. The background music adds a solid dimension to the overall experience. Throughout the film, there are charming references to old Shah Rukh Khan movies that are sure to bring a smile to your face, adding a nostalgic touch to the viewing experience.

What Doesn’t Work in Favour of the Movie

Yodha tries to cover a lot of ground at once, but it can’t do any of them credit. You will become irritated with the numerous subplots and conflicts because of their abundance. It is impossible to engage with the story rationally or emotionally since it is so illogical. The movie is replete with cliches. The conversations, whether they are those of the protagonist or the adversaries, are so corny that all you can do is suppress your laughter. The conflict between India, Pakistan, and Kashmir is becoming obsolete. You just know that it will wear you out.

Yodha is one of those things that wears you out physically but also has psychological effects. The movie makes several attempts to evoke strong feelings, but when the narrative is so severely undermined, it is hard to feel anything at all. Technically speaking, there are several instances where the dubbing is incorrect, which might be bothersome for the audience. The crowd scenes within the airplane are poorly executed.

    Performances in Yodha

Arun Katyal, played by Sidharth Malhotra, is a dynamic actor. When he performs the fight sequences, he appears elegant. That being said, the film suffers from his incapacity to feel and communicate as much as is necessary.

As an artist, Raashii Khanna isn’t given much opportunities. Though her presence does brighten the screen.

Laila, the flight attendant played by Disha Patani, is a compelling character. She kills the action sequences and exudes glamour.

A lot is added by Sunny Hinduja in his role as the dishonest adversary. He is obviously disappointed with the discourse.

Kritika Bharadwaj does a fantastic job filling in for the pilot. Tanuj Virwani’s appearance in the movie is welcome. The small roles that the other supporting characters play are well-done.
